June @ Life.
June at Life:
It’s the first real month of summer, Brighton beach comes to life, festivals are kicking off all over the world and everyone generally feels pretty good about everything. Here at Life we’ve got a few things that will hopefully give you a little something extra to be happy about.
First of all, we have a massive month of Friday’s to look forward to!
07/06 – Outlook Festival Launch Party – We’re delighted to be hosting this party for Europe’s leading bass music and soundsystem culture festival. With the full festival line up including the likes of Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) / Capleton / Talib Kweli / Anthony B / Jay Electronica / Alborosie & The Shengen Clan / The Pharcyde / David Rodigan MBE presents Ram Jam / Mala In Cuba (Live) and many more amazing artists it’s easy to see why so many flock to the Croatian coast for an extended weekend of debauchery.
We’ll be warming things up nicely at Life with a lineup that looks little something like this:
BRIGHTON UP HI FI
Earlybird tickets are £5 / £7 thereafter / MOTD.
Available here HERE
For more info on the festival including the full line up, tickets, travel and accommodation, visit the website…
14/06 – Below The Line – Back with another incredible line up before taking a break for the summer, the guys at Below The Line have really pulled it out the bag with this one…
DjRUM – Is one of those people who is never mentioned casually, whoever is speaking about him always takes the time to really impress upon you just how freaking good he is. Known largely as a true DJ’s DJ, the last year has seen the release of his first full album, ‘Seven Lies’, a collection of some of the must beautiful and captivating music released this year. Never one to be pigeon-holed, DjRum’s sets are known to be diverse and with 2 hours to do as he pleases, we’re excited to see where he takes it.
ANUSHKA – This Brighton duo have been causing a serious stir across the interweb with their soulful yet ‘ard brand of bass-driven pop. Having been snapped up by Giles Peterson’s label, Brownswood, their first EP ‘ Yes Guess’, gave a taste of their catchy take on the club scene. Seeing as they’re self-confessed Below The Line fans, we can’t wait to see what they do to Life’s dancefloor.
CHESUS AKA EARL JEFFERS – We’ve always been big fans of the C.R.S.T boyos and Chesus is no exception. His solo work either under his own name or as Earl Jeffers perfectly combines the urgent snap and swing of raw garage and house with the sounds and tones of early disco and funk. His track ‘Special’ has been a regular staple of sets with us as well as with the likes of Andres and Skream. His most recent EP on Catapult is one of our favourite tunes of the summer so far and is unlikely to leave the bag all season. Expect high-energy grooving from start to finish.
In support we’ve got the one and only MURDER HE WROTE alongside ALORS CORS and downstairs we’ve got the BOAT DRINKS gang bringing a healthy mix of disco, soul and alcohol.
£4 before 12 with names on the FACEBOOK WALL.
£6 NUS/ £8 thereafter.
21/06 – AkaAkaRoar! Closing Party – After 3 years of putting on some of the best parties that Life has ever seen, AkaAkaRoar! has decided to move on to new things. Like a child growing up and leaving home, it’s emotional, sad even, but we’re very proud to have been a part of what Aka was and are hugely excited to see what they’re going to come up with next (seriously watch this space).
Here’s their official statement…
“This is the end of AKAAKAROAR! as you know it…
Our June instalment will be our last party at LIFE, where for over three years, we have been lucky enough to host some of the most exciting names in underground dance music. However all good things must come to an end and we will be moving on from LIFE so keep them peeled for more info as and when
A huge thanks to everyone that has attended our events in the last three and a half years and to all the artists that have played for us, including a whopping fifty five Brighton debuts! And a massive shout to LIFE itself as if we are honest there is no way we would have been able to get away with some of our line ups anywhere else, or more to the point, afford them!
You can catch us this summer hosting the main stage at Echo Festival, as well as a stage and a boat party at Dimensions Festival and there will be plenty of appearances from the AKA FAM on the terrace at LIFE over the summer…
As you’d expect we are going out with style, with the return of Midland and two debuts from Panorama Bar’s Nick Höppner and the ridiculously talented Kowton. Plus we are delighted to have our boy Leon Vynehall one of the original AKA fam, back where he belongs!
