LIFE IS TWO: BIRTHDAY WEEKENDER //

Welcome to the LIFE 2nd Birthday Weekender, tearing up the seafront from FRIDAY 5TH to SUNDAY 7TH AUGUST!

Ever since LIFE opened its doors two years ago, we quickly developed a reputation as one of Brighton’s leading venues for showcasing forward thinking, underground dance music. And what better opportunity to showcase what we know and love, than by celebrating our 2nd birthday this summer – over the first weekend of August 2011, we will be throwing a party for 18 hours over 2 nights, with music and events on the terrace during the day – and you’re cordially invited to come down and celebrate with us!
As it goes, the shockingly good birthday party entertainment looks like thus…

FRIDAY 5TH AUGUST ➤
Our massive birthday weekend kicks off on Friday, with Team LIFE and the AkaAkaRoar! crew presenting a huge night of celebrations from three of the biggest artists on the scene: MIDLAND, SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER, BLAWAN and ample support from the AKAFAM – our trusty Aka Resident DJ’s.

MIDLAND has steadily begun to make a name for himself, both as a Producer and DJ. Hailing from Leeds, and indeed judging by the name he’s dubbed himself, he no doubt takes influence from the music of his area. Styles such as Bassline, Speed Garage and Grime, which are often pretty nasty (in a good way) and very initially brazen, grab your attention from the off, and Midland’s music has this same effect: listening to his productions, you’re immediately taken in. There’s a spark which you cannot help but notice.

As stated on FACT Magazine’s site: “Midland makes warm, tensile House and Techno, but the narrative shape of his tracks and his regular deployment of fragmented, ethereal vocal snippets betray the influence – conscious or otherwise – of dubstep individualists Burial, Pangaea and Joy Orbison.”
You can hear these influences in his track “Bring Joy”, below. As it’s title indicates, this literally just does what it says on the tin; very beautiful, strong and artistic…

Alongside Midland, things are kept rolling by BLAWAN and SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER, fuelling your dancefloor badness with heavy vibes and madly infectious club sounds.
Plus, as a bit of a birthday treat, we’ll be warming you up for Saturday’s main event with FREE ENTRY before midnight and a cheeky selection of drinks deals all night!
Start getting in the spirit with Blawan’s “Getting Me Down”, below… Pure hype.

SATURDAY 6TH AUGUST ➤
During the day, come down to the terrace for beachside party activities and music – fingers crossed for sunshine! More details will be released soon, so watch this space. Basically, bring on the jugs of Pimms and Courvoisier punch bowls, and charge up for the epic night to come…

…As LIFE hosts a full-blown, 12 hour party across two floors of the club, celebrating what we do best – forward thinking, exciting, different and diverse dancefloor orientated music. Headlining the night will be one of Techno’s biggest stars, MARCEL DETTMANN, and Bristolian Dubstep legend, APPLEBLIM.
Support comes from YUSUF SEBATI and LORCA, with the MOODY DISCO DJ’s, the NIGHTMOVES DJ’s  and MATT BARKER playing in our newly revealed ‘Boudoir’ style Room Two.

DETTMANN has to be one of the most famous guys on the Techno scene of today – we are truly excited to see him play, and hope you are too! At the very forefront of Techno since it’s beginnings in Berlin in the early 90’s, Dettmann lives and breathes his culture and his music. Promising us a night to remember, he describes his DJ sets as dark and precise – he is a true professional at the top of his game:

So, Saturday night kicks off at 8pm, with Invite Only Drinks for the Staff, Friends and Family of LIFE, with doors opening to the public at 9pm! Get down early to enjoy a BBQ on the terrace before shaking the club to its very core…
