One year ago the mighty Aka Aka Roar began bringing us Brighton folk the best in forward thinking, underground bass music, and on 14th January they celebrate their 1st birthday with yet another incredible line-up. SBTRKT (Young Turks) headlines with Braiden (Doldrums) going B2B with Brackles (Rinse FM), Numbers recent signing SLACKK & of course the AKA Fam.

The year has gone so quickly. Bonfire night has already been, christmas is fast approaching and soon the new year will be upon us. Some people complain about the year passing by too quickly, but they fail to remember that it means LIFE’s NYE parties are nearly here, and this year we’ve turned it up a notch or two!
This year were going tropical, kicking out the winter blues & getting all hot and bothered to bring in the new year! Providing the soundtrack to our night we have Uk Funky’s main man Roska, Hemlock Recordings own Untold & UKG legend Wookie, plus support from Donga of Well Rounded, and AKA AKA ROAR residents Ben White & Temple.
PLUS we are opening up ‘The Lagoon’ and our good friends from the Thursday Night Fish Fry shall be providing the entertainment alongside Jail Bait & the dagger DJ’s!

Roska is taking UK Funky to the next level. At Sonar this year, the South London DJ/Producer played as part of Mary Anne Hobbs Presents alongside Flying Lotus and Joy Orbison, making him the first UK Funky artist ever to bring the sound to the acclaimed electronic music festival. With a weekly slot on the seminal Rinse FM radio station, debut album released on Rinse Recordings and ongoing output on his own Roska Kicks and Snares imprint, Roska is fast spreading a more syncopated, experimental and grimey version of UK Funky – his debut at Big Fish is set to be a monumental night indeed!
With support from Simon ‘Temple’ Reid, a young man who never fails to impress when playing out… his tightly mixed blend of 2-Step, UK Funky and Garage make him one to watch as he is certain for big things in the future!
BIG FISH presents JOY ORBISON…
Joy Orbison is undoubtedly one the most exciting DJ/producers to have emerged from the world of underground dance music in recent years… his debut single “Hyph Mngo” has become the forward-thinking dubstep/2-step tune named as both Resident Advisor and Fact Magazine’s no. 1 track of 2009. BBC Sound of 2010 named him on a shortlist of 15 best rising music stars, and his following release “BRKL CLLN” on his own Doldrums label, alongside notorious mixes for Radio 1 and Ministry of Sound have only served to cement Joy Orbison’s renown. As talented a DJ as he is a producer, he is guaranteed to entertain when he is set to grace the decks at LIFE on Friday 6th August! With support from Hospitality resident Callous, plus AKA AKA ROAR’s very own Temple.
