CRITICAL SOUND – S.P.Y / TOTAL SCIENCE / KASRA / WELL ROUNDED + more!

After launching their residency in Brighton with a hugely successful launch party back in February (with DBridge, Lenzman, Kasra and Bassline MC), we are pleased to say that CRITICAL SOUND returns to LIFE  on FRIDAY 17th JUNE.

As the brainchild of DJ and producer KASRA, the Critical Sound label started out of frustration at the lack of quality control from some major imprints, who were guilty of releasing waves and waves of below average Drum & Bass… Through carefully selected releases and an ear for distinctive quality, Critical Sound has gradually gathered pace and now occupies a unique, hard-fought and respected place in the Drum & Bass scene.

Critical Sound’s June date at LIFE will see another unmissable line up, consisting of label boss and resident KASRA, highly sought after DJ and producer S.P.Y, longstanding prolific producers TOTAL SCIENCE, with support from CALLOUS and FOREIGN CONCEPT. The night will be hosted by BASSLINE MC.

Headlining the night will be S.P.Y. He has recently but firmly established himself as one of the most exciting new producers and DJs in Drum & Bass, demonstrating both quality and consistency in his material. Plus, with a background in DJing stretching back to the age of 12, his skills behind the turntables are unmistakable and he is sure to deliver a killer set down at LIFE.

The massively hard hitting “SURFACE / CONTROL”, a collaboration between S.P.Y & KASRA, is due for May 2011 release, and fully bursts with crisp, clean breaks that roll over deep basslines. Check it out below:

AUTOPSY @ LIFE: APRIL 22ND //

AUTOPSY are bringing their dark and militant Drum & Bass to LIFE on EASTER GOOD FRIDAY – 22nd APRIL – with a killer line up of artists for their first big party of 2011.

AUTOPSY was established in August 2005, and has since held events in London, Brighton, Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Rotterdam (NL). Autopsy events cater for the darker, experimental side of the musical spectrum and try to push new artists, as well as showcasing legends within the scene. If you like your music deep, dark, minimal and intense, this night at LIFE is sure to be an unmissable experience.

A special 90 minute b2b from PHACE and ROCKWELL will headline the night. The gritty and rebellious PHACE has cemented a very prominent, international role within the worlds of Drum & Bass and Broken Beat, releasing a plethora of distinct and outstanding material on the scene’s biggest labels. As a DJ, he is known for his precise and energetic sets, bursting with deep cinematic flourishes and explosive energy. Playing alongside ROCKWELL, the duo are sure to deliver a purely mind-blowing and incredibly powerful set!

“Current darling of the D&B scene” and “one of the brightest sparks in D&B right now” are very apt descriptions of ROCKWELL. He offers a breath of fresh air to D&B, breaking down boundaries and pushing the genre into new, unchartered territories. In his production we see a love for sparse but intricate beats and rhythms, with a teasing blend of dark and light moods and textures. He creates a very invigorating and engaging sound that at times reflects the moody Tech Step of the past, and at others serves up something totally new. Supporting these guys will be RAIDEN, flying in especially from Estonia, GREMLINZ, ULTERIOR MOTIVE, DECEIT B2B NEKROSIS, KYRIST, and we are also honored to see the debut set from Invisible Recording’s new signing HYBRIS. But that’s not all – on top of THIS we’ll have a Room 2 of DJ’s playing the finest Dub, Bass, Garage and 2 Step.

FRIDAY 15TH APRIL at LIFE will be massiiive, as we welcome METALHEADZ to the building for a night of mental, next level, pure gold Drum & Bass at it’s finest!

METALHEADZ is a London based record label making pioneering moves in the Drum & Bass world of today and supporting much of the scene’s freshest and brightest talent. They have an impressive back catalogue of high quality artists that will make you weak at the knees: names such as Photek, Dillinja, Grooverider, Ed Rush and Optical are all big contributers to the label.

Joining him on the night will be Drum & Bass commanders DJ DIE, JUBEI and CALLOUS plus support. MC JUSTYCE, a long time resident at Metalheadz, will be hosting the night. Justyce is well known for his perfect timing and smooth flow, complimenting the DJ and letting the music breathe.
