HOK WUK – NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL WARMUP PARTY //

HOT WUK BRIGHTON has made it into the radio! Red Bull Studio’s “August Rave Radar”, a monthly selection of hand-picked clubnights from around the country, included LIFE’s summer installment of Carnival madness, Dancehall and Bashment vibes at HOT WUK – THE NOTTINGHILL CARNIVAL WARMUP PARTY!
It’s up there with the likes of Manchester’s Warehouse Project and the Green Man Festival in Wales, so we’re pretty chuffed!

On FRIDAY 19TH AUGUST, shimmy down to wind your batty on the seafront with huge vibes from the UK’s #1 Bashment outfit, THE HEATWAVE. Plus, UK Garage legend STICKY and RENEGADE YOUTH will be on the bill too! Don’t miss another high energy winding session of the best in Dancehall, Bashment, pure hype and pure energy. Huge tunes and quickfire mixing, girls brucking out and people banging on the ceiling for reloads – this, you can expect! Big riddims from JA to the UK! Get your air horns ready and hype out to Sticky’s “Triplets”, below…

We’re also rather excited about the NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL, so we thought it was only right to throw a bruck-out Brighton warmup party…

As a lot of you have probably been, you’ll know what a wicked weekend in London the carnival provides! Internationally known, it has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best street festivals in the world.
For those who don’t know, here’s a bit of background info, as stated on their website… “Held each August Bank Holiday since 1966, the Notting Hill Carnival is the largest festival celebration of its kind in Europe. Every year the streets of West London come alive, with the sounds and smells of Europe’s biggest street festival. Twenty miles of vibrant colourful costumes surround over 40 static sound systems, hundreds of Caribbean food stalls, (make sure you visit Mama’s Jerk Station, on the corner of Portobello Rd and Oxford Gardens) over 40,000 volunteers and over 1 million Notting Hill carnival revellers.”
The dates for this year’s Carnival are the 28th and 29th August – if you’ve never been, don’t put it off!

OFFICIAL GRADUATION AFTERPARTY //

Newsflash! THIS FRIDAY – the 29th July – LIFE is throwing a little bash for all you students wanting to enjoy your Graduation in style, and hosting the OFFICIAL GRADUATION AFTERPARTY!

For those of you celebrating your freedom from University Education this week, we will be having a FREE CHAMPAGNE RECEPTION on our seafront terrrace from 11pm until midnight, where you can start the party with elegance…
If you’re looking to get rather more messy (and celebrate a night you probably won’t remember), our Friday drinks deals have been givien a First Class Honours (ho ho ho) and are likely to get you infused with more alcohol than Amy Winehouse’s toxicology report! (Sorry).

We’ll also have a Year Book photo booth, £10 bottles of bubbly and a party license until 6am, so you can make this a good one! Plus let’s be honest, this will probably be your last chance to seal the deal with all those girls and/or boys who you havn’t yet managed to seduce, but have been crushing on throughout your entire Uni life… Would you want to live with that regret?? Come down and get it on!

Music will be provided by the FLASH GIT DJ’S playing a genre smashing mash up of club hits and dancefloor destroyers.
We have literally torn this pair away from supporting the likes of Annie Mac, Simian Mobile Disco and the mainstages of London’s super clubs, and caught them before they head off on thier tour of Ibiza, so we’re lucky and honored to have them! Check out their recent Future House mix, below…

KUNG FU TERRACE PARTY //

The second in the KUNG FU SUMMER SERIES hits LIFE with an afternoon of breaks and beats, THIS SUNDAY – 31IST JULY.

It’s gonna be a chill one, so fingers crossed for sunshine! We’ll be in full swing from 2pm, so come down and ease those raging Saturday night hangovers, or just spend a nice, lazy, sunny Sunday on the terrace, with BBQ food, drinks and cocktails available from the bar. Plus you’ll be serenaded with live DJ sets throughout the day from these fine individuals…

BRAZIL BEACH PARTY AT LIFE //

On THURSDAY 28TH JULY at LIFE we’re embracing the summer in full force with JAP STUDIES and BR40 presenting a BRAZILIAN BEACH PARTY, bringing the best and most beautiful Brazilian vibes to the coolest beach in the world (or at least on this side of the Atlantic).

LIFE will be the only club in Brighton hosting a traditional Brazilian night full of sugar and spice and all things nice, with Brazilian DJs and Live music to get your hip-shaking grooves on, keeping you in high spirits the whole night through.

Alongside a LIVE BRAZILIAN BAND (identity TBA – so watch this space!) will be a DJ set from DJ RAY MORGADO, who’s eclectic taste in music sees him taking influence from, and playing, a mix of Samba, Forro, Funk Carioca, Sertanejo Universitario, Axe Music, House Music & more. Check out his recent euphoric House mix, below, for a brilliant, danceable party soundtrack:

Joining him will be DJ GIL SANTOS, playing a variety of North & Northeastern Brazilian Roots music; expect to hear exciting global club sounds such as Manguebeat, Maracatu, Coco, Ciranda, Ritmo Regional, Tribal Latin, Jongo and Electro Brasil.

Doors open at 10pm, so come down and catch the last rays of a Brighton sunset before some some serious dancing, good vibes and beachside partying! And if you’re new to the wider shores of global music, sitting there wondering – what are these genres? what is this?! where is the Dubstep? – then come down to open your eyes, ears and heart to a new and exhilarating world of sounds. It’s gonna be fresh, fun and sound like the summer holiday we all wish we were on right now!
