In recent months the AKAAKAROAR!team have brought some (genuinely) hefty line-ups to the Brighton seafront. Most notably their recent party with a 5 hour set from the House and Techno legend, Theo Parrish, with support from Julio Bashmore, producer of one of last years most prolific house tracks ‘Battle 4 Middle U‘. Before that saw 3024′s, Martyn, and AUS Music’s wonderboy, Midland, grace the the decks for they’re second birthday bash. AND this week they collaborate with Below The Line to bring Mosca, Tessela and Lorca down to LIFE. Anyone would think they’d stop for a breather pretty soon? Their latest party says otherwise!
This month sees Rinse FM favourite, Oneman, join man of the moment, Boddika. If that’s not enough, this years most promising up and comers South London Ordnance and Leon Vynehall will be in support as well as AKA favourite, Dubloke.
30th March sees south London House & Bass collective, Dark Sky come to LIFE to celebrate the release of their new EP ‘Black Rainbows‘ forthcoming on Black Acre (March 26th), the first release since 2011s ‘Radius EP‘.
Black Rainbows is full of Dark Sky‘s recognisable deep and murky sound with a colourful twist of percussive rhythm that keeps the songs driving throughout. Tracks like ‘Zoom‘ will, and have already been making the rounds on the club sound systems to full effect. This is definitely not a show to be missed.
London based DJ & Producer, Mosca, was one of last years biggest success stories in the House and Garage scene, with Bax and Done Me Wrong (From his EP on Numbers) getting unprecedented hype, plays and press coverage (including a day time play on Fearne Cotton’s Radio 1 show), an incredible EP on Martyn‘s 3024 imprint (The Wavey EP) and too top it all off he has recently been given his own show on Radio 1 as part of the ‘In New DJs We Trust’.
With that in mind, we are thoroughly excited to have him down at LIFEcourtesy of AKA AKA ROAR! and Below The Line on Thursday 5th April.
He’ll be joined by two of this years most promising producers Tessela (Punch Drunk) and AAR!’s very own Lorca (Live Ones, Dummy Records).
Bok Bok’s appearance at Life is timed nicely with the release of his new collaborative record Night Voyage Tool Kit, on which he worked with Dutch house producer Tom Trago as part of Sound Pellegrino’s new Crossover Series. Keep your eyes on the ENK blog for an exclusive review, coming soon…
The EP officially goes on sale on Monday 31st October – yet another little Halloween treat to look forward to. We’re going to dress up as the undead, binge on pumpkin shaped chocolates and vodka jelly and play this stupidly loud, it’s going to get intense and weird and we’ll probably scare the neighbours, so watch out Brighton. The pagan spirit of witches and spirits are gonna be mingling with new future bass and the results will be mad.
Anyway, that aside, we’re very much looking forward to Bok Bok’s set and hope to hear some fresh new sounds – but let’s not forget “the floor’s all swervy and shit” classic that is Citizen’s Dub, though… turn it up, below. Bring it on Bok Bok, you devil!
As stated on XLR8R, Oneman’s DJ style sees him pulling “from nearly every branch of the hardcore continuum, expertly weaving together disparate sounds and balancing new and unreleased cuts with select gems from his vault. He’s been called a DJ’s DJ, but that’s not really fair, as Oneman is a true expert of the craft, someone whose influence extends well beyond the so-called ‘heads’.” His Rinse FM show (each and every Sunday from 11pm – 1am) is definitely worth a listen.
Slackk, with Trim on the mic, set to turn up the heat with some true UK grime. If you made it down to the Butterz takeover at Life a few weeks ago, you know the kinda thing to expect! Check out Trim’s bars over Elijah & Skilliam, during their set at Life, on Ustream.tv.
So come down and join us – and our good friends at Well Rounded and Aka – in a celebration of great music, cheap drinks and partying!

This is a bit last minute, however… We at LIFE are teaming up once again with the AKA AKA ROAR! boys to bring you a massive night in celebration of all the great nights we’ve put on together in the past! So without further ado, our headliners tonight are JACQUES GREENE and KORELESS, with big support from the Aka DJ’s…
From LIFE‘s massive New Year’s Eve and Birthday celebrations to AKA’s huge parties with James Blake, Joy Orbison, Claude Von Stroke, Person Sound, Mosca and Jam City (to name but a few), it has certainly been a year that has cemented both group’s reputations as the “go to places” for Brighton’s most diverse and interesting club nights. And the future just holds more – with Bok Bok and Oneman set to appear at the forthcoming Aka night in a few weeks, plus internationally big names in the pipeline (watch this space!) – we’ll be starting tonight by bringing together two of the hottest DJs/Producers right now!
Jacques Greene has fast become a very highly respected and rated producer, thanks to a generous handful of impeccable tunes. Full of beautifully sampled vocals, rounded basslines and harmonies, with plenty of 2-Step Garage and House inspired rhythms, Greene creates a sound that is entirely his own. Check out “Another Girl”, above, a track released this year on LuckyMe – it’s a warm, sweeping example of modern House that is designed to cast spells over clubs and clubbers alike, fully saturated with hesitant drum patterns and gorgeous overlapping vocal samples from Ciara…
Producing tracks in a similar vein is Koreless, and yet despite the recent popularity that seems to frequently boarder on obsession of a particular style of music (Bass + Beats + Vocals = what a surprise), Koreless retains a very distinct sound that stands out from the rest. We’re gonna post two tracks of his below – firstly “Lost In Tokyo”, which you literally get lost in and is absolutely magic, and secondly the darker, more sinisterly deep sounds of “So Late”.
Support comes from Aka Residents LORCA and STICKIE DAVIS.
And as a little treat, if you ‘Like’ the AkaAkaRoar! Fan Page and put your full names on the page wall, we’ll give you £4 Guestlist Entry!!
